Additional Information

You may be denied the settlement that you request.  If that is the case, you can take your complaint elsewhere.  There are a number of private organizations that may try to help you, such as your local Better Business Bureau.  You may also want to contact your local newspaper or television station.  Many have a consumer action reporter who will intercede on your behalf.

The federal and state governments also have offices to help consumers with some product problems.  The most likely federal office to address a consumer product complaint is the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).  The FTC headquarters is in Washington, D. C., and there are many regional offices, particularly in large cities.

More often, the greatest assistance is provided by your local state office of consumer protection. Many states also have county consumer protection offices.  County prosecutors, as well as some larger cities, also have consumer complaint offices.
